River Condition 2007
The Teifi at Lllechryd Bridge, 9th April '07
This year alongside photos and the temperature of the river I've added accurate measurements supplied by the Environment Agency via their River Level Service Line. Readings come from the Teifi monitoring station at Glan Teifi, Abercych, on the lower part of the river between Cenarth and Llechryd.
The base to compare the readings to is the Summer Level which is 0.9 metres
For example, today's reading at 6am, April 4th was 0.81m., that is 9 cm below Summer Level, believe it or not.
Footnote, September
The EA have adjusted their view on the summer level of the river, it has now been lowered to 0.77m
The E. A.'s River Level Service Line is a recorded message on a premium rate line, their number is 09066 197 755
Since July '07 the announcements on this line have become incredibly long winded and began to cost about £2 a pop on my mobile so beware! The numbers needed to get through the extended (and expensive) announcements to Teifi information in English is 1 followed by 2 and then 1 . this will save you about a quid.
Wishing you all tight lines and good water through the season.
September
This is the time of year when salmon become the main target for anglers on the Teifi for although silver sewin will still be coming into the river with the tides they are are well past their prime and about to spawn in October. The salmon on the other hand are in very good condition at this time of year and the Teifi's main run begins in mid September offering the opportunity of hooking one of the twenty pounders that run the river every season. Salmon run the river right through the year but given some rain the fishing can be spectacular in the autumn, so, fingers crossed.
We could do with some rain to bring the salmon up in numbers now, our river is beginning to show its bones. It looks like a Westerly system is coming in this Friday, 14th Sept so that may herald the start of the main run.....

More heavy rain predicted today. The BBC Wales weather pages are very good for animated predictions for rain, today looks like it will be a complete wash out so we can expect coloured water into the beginning of next week.

Llechryd Bridge, 1st July '07 - compare this to the picture from 1st June below.
After the highest June rainfall registered for Wales since 1914 the Teifi is continuing to run very high and fast and holding a lot of colour. Seals are following the salmon up to Cenarth as they run the floods. We're very fortunate to have a natural barrier in the river that prevents them from following them even further along the system, their presence in the river reminds us of the number of salmon that must be eaten in the coastal waters through a dry summer. Today's reading at Glanteifi on 2nd July is the highest level to go on the website since April and 5'7" higher than the water level at the beginning of the season.
River level at 6am, Monday, 2nd July - 2.53m, a fall of 0.11m over the last 12 hours.

River level at 6am, Monday 18th June - 0.69m, the level has dropped 0.03m over the last 12 hours.
Monday 18th June. Another period of heavy showers fell over the Teifi catchment on Friday turning the tributaries into torrents within hours and by the end of the evening the Teifi was slowly rising and highly coloured again. There's more rain forecast all week so the chances for night fishing look remote but the fresh water should be bringing the first grilse into the system.

Newbridge, 16th June
Sewin are now spread right through TTA waters and some really good double figure fish have been caught and also lost. This is a great start to the season, let's hope it continues. More heavy rain forecast
The sewin are jumping in pools below Cenarth now, possibly above too, it looks like we may have a good season - weather permitting. Yesterday the Western Mail was reporting predictions of a record breaking hot summer for Wales with temperaures up to 37C which is a bit of a poser - what will happen to our fishing in that kind of temperature?
It's all up for grabs now whatever the weather, get out and enjoy it while you can.

Newbridge, 10th June. Water temperature 15 ºC, 62ºF.
River level at 6am, Friday 8th June - 0.69m
There's good water on the river at the moment, it's carrying a little colour and running quite fast making it just a little less than perfect for "the fly at night" but OK for worming and spinning. Night temperatures have been bad up to now with a frost in Abercych last Tuesday and temperatures around the 3ºC mark. There's not much surface activity so an intermediate or sinking line would, perhaps, be a good idea until the nights become warmer.
The small sewin are now entering the river, substantial numbers of them are reported to have been spotted moving up river from Llechryd bridge so it's game on!
River level at 6am, Monday 4th June - 0.72m

Newbridge, 2nd June. Water temperature 15 ºC, 60ºF.
