Flies for the Teifi

I love fly fishing and fishing a fly at night for sewin is, to me, the very best of fishing. How important is the choice of fly in pursuit of sewin though?

One chooses a rod out of the hundreds on offer, next a reel, same thing. Next a line - floater, sinker, intermediate, ghost tip, sink tip, double taper, mill end or whatever. One chooses the weight of line that one feels best suits the day and then the choices between the varieties of leader present themselves - a 10lb line or 8lb, 6lb, fluorocarbon, nylon, hair of unicorn......... And we waver. By the time we hit the river these choices are usually behind us, we've bought the tackle, we've checked the river and we leave the car, maybe with a couple of rods and lines just to be on the safe side. And in our pocket is a box of flies..................
